Today is Thursday, May 18, 2023, also known as “Mental Health Action Day”.
What happens if you or your child signs a lease with Apartments Downtown or Apartments at Iowa in Iowa City, but over the course of the school year at the University of Iowa or Kirkwood Community College the tenant develops an illness or mental illness?
If a lease is signed with this company, owned by Bryan Clark and managed to one degree or another by Erek Sittig, Megan Clabaugh, Chantrice Horne and others, they will not work with you. They will misguide you. They will ghost you. They will blame you.
The lease offered in 2022 has no provision for subleasing or an early termination clause.
While you can attempt to negotiate subleasing, the company will not provide any guidance whatsoever. The company does not perform background checks on sublet applicants and they do not tell you this.
The company might eventually dangle the idea of early termination, but Bryan Clark will reject the idea without explanation.
Erek P Sittig, an attorney, member of the North Liberty City Council, and the Registered Agent for the companies owned by Bryan Clark, will not respond.
This sort of inexcusable behavior helps to stigmatize medical issues and mental illness that can occur in college students.
It’s difficult enough for a parent to deal with things like medical issues, mental illness, substance abuse, and other diseases. To then have to deal with a company with a long history of defrauding and scamming good renters is not helpful.
IT’S TIME TO STOP SIGNING LEASES WITH APARTMENTS DOWNTOWN AND APARTMENTS AT IOWA in Iowa City.
Do NOT sign a lease with any property rental company that doesn’t allow for a sublease or early termination clause.
NEVER TRUST Apartments at Iowa or Apartments Downtown in Iowa City.
