Avoid organized crime in Iowa City by NOT signing a lease with Apartments at Iowa or Apartments Downtown.
We received an email from a disgruntled renter who was very upset at having their belongings stolen, almost certainly by Apartments Downtown employees/contractors.
The renter had moved most of their belongings out of the apartment after graduation in May 2023, but left a few things behind and had planned to pick them up later and turn the keys in after July 10, 2023. Rent was still being paid on the apartment.
Notices were received by the renter about having the apartment shown. The renter didn’t mind because they weren’t living there anymore.
Several days after the apartment was shown, they received a notice that maintenance had been performed. The renter hadn’t requested the maintenance, but was charged for it. The renter could have done this themselves.
After not getting a couple of emails answered, the renter called into the Apartments Downtown office and the staff initially acted like they didn’t know anything. Staff refused to give their last names or say who had been in the renter’s apartment other than it had been shown to a possible tenant for August and some maintenance had been performed.
What do you do in this situation?
Don’t call the Iowa City Police. They will do nothing except maybe take a report, but they likely won’t want to do that because they know this isn’t going anywhere. Even if you had clear video of somebody stealing a microwave or TV from your apartment, it’s extremely unlikely that anybody would be arrested or prosecuted.
Don’t file a lawsuit against Apartments Downtown (or Apartments at Iowa). Everybody you’ve talked to either won’t show up to court or will deny everything. Even if you won, it would take forever to force a seasoned criminal like Bryan Clark to pay you.
Go buy a new microwave or TV and forget about it. That’s the price you have to pay for signing a lease with unindicted criminals like Clark’s underlings: Megan Clabaugh, Chantrice Horne, Brent Tunelius, Colten Hohenthaner, Melissa Zieglowsky, Holly Hardin, Joshua L Whetstone, Joe Holland, Erek Sittig, and others.
You messed up by signing a lease with these companies. It’s your fault. Next time, do a little research on the internet and on local court cases before getting involved with thieves.Let’s break down how Apartments Downtown and Bryan Clark’s criminal organization gets away with it.
The people working for or contracting with Apartments Downtown and Apartments at Iowa are always casing the properties for theft opportunities.
They’re not paid much, or maybe it’s a thrill to steal something and get away with it.
Do you really think those “security cameras” in the hallways are working?
Even if they worked all the time, what do you think the video looks like? The hallways are typically quite dark.
If the office staff don’t purposefully ignore your emails and phone calls about theft, they will Jedi Mindfake you into believing that it’s your fault or that you’re the one who is lying. Or they might say that it could have been the prospective tenant touring the apartment who stole from you, which is true, but unlikely.
It doesn’t have to be small appliances or video games. It could be something as simple as a bag of weed or bottle of pills.
